Manuscript Type

1. General Policy on Manuscript Types

Jurnal Ilmu-Ilmu Pertanian (JIIP) publishes scholarly manuscripts that contribute to the advancement, application, and dissemination of scientific knowledge in agricultural sciences. The journal focuses on sustainable agriculture, agribusiness, food technology, agricultural cultivation, agricultural processing technology, agricultural extension, agricultural socio-economics, post-harvest technology, agricultural mechanization, seed technology, soil science, and animal husbandry.
JIIP establishes transparent manuscript classification and submission requirements in accordance with the COPE and partner organisations' Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, which recommend that scholarly journals publicly identify the types of manuscripts they consider for publication and explain their editorial requirements.
Manuscripts must demonstrate scientific relevance, methodological integrity, originality, analytical clarity, and a substantive contribution to agricultural knowledge or practice. JIIP applies the principles of COPE Core Practices concerning ethical oversight, data reliability, intellectual property, transparent peer review, and responsible publication.

2. Original Research Articles

Original Research Articles constitute the principal manuscript category considered by JIIP. These articles must report original scientific investigations that address clearly defined research questions, employ appropriate research methodologies, present reliable empirical findings, and formulate conclusions supported by the evidence.
Original research may employ quantitative, qualitative, experimental, observational, participatory, or mixed-methods approaches. Relevant investigations may include agricultural field experiments, laboratory studies, agronomic assessments, socio-economic surveys, agricultural extension evaluations, food processing experiments, agricultural technology assessments, and animal husbandry research.
Authors must describe their research design, sampling procedures, data collection methods, analytical techniques, and relevant research limitations with sufficient clarity to permit scientific evaluation. This requirement reflects the COPE Core Practice on Data and Reproducibility, which encourages transparent reporting, appropriate research documentation, and the use of recognised reporting standards.
Original Research Articles should normally follow the IMRaD structure, consisting of an Introduction, Materials and Methods or Research Methods, Results, and Discussion, followed by a Conclusion. The manuscript must also contain an informative title, abstract, keywords, acknowledgements where applicable, funding information, relevant ethical declarations, and references.
Research findings must be presented accurately and without selective manipulation or misleading interpretation. Authors must disclose methodological limitations and report relevant findings, including results that do not support the initial research hypothesis. JIIP applies the COPE principles concerning research integrity, reproducibility, and allegations of misconduct when evaluating the reliability of submitted research.

3. Review Articles

Review Articles may be considered by JIIP subject to the journal's editorial policy and the suitability of the manuscript to its scientific scope. A Review Article must provide a substantive, critical, and well-organised synthesis of existing research rather than merely summarising previously published literature.
Review Articles should identify a clear scientific question or analytical objective, critically examine relevant evidence, identify areas of agreement and disagreement, describe limitations in existing knowledge, and explain the implications of the reviewed findings for agricultural science, policy, or practice.
JIIP may consider narrative reviews, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses where these formats are relevant to the journal's aims and formally permitted by its editorial policy. The specific review approach must be clearly identified in the manuscript.
Systematic Reviews must employ transparent and reproducible procedures for identifying, selecting, appraising, and synthesising relevant studies. Authors should report information sources, search strategies, eligibility criteria, screening procedures, evidence appraisal methods, and synthesis techniques where applicable. These expectations are consistent with the COPE guidance on data transparency, reproducibility, and appropriate reporting guidelines.
Meta-analyses must provide a clear rationale for combining study findings and adequately explain statistical procedures, heterogeneity assessments, sensitivity analyses, and relevant limitations. Authors must distinguish their interpretations from the findings reported in the original studies.
Review Articles must accurately acknowledge previous scholarship and avoid presenting existing concepts, data, or conclusions as original discoveries. The journal applies the COPE Core Practice on Intellectual Property when assessing appropriate attribution, plagiarism, and overlapping publication.

4. Manuscript Categories Requiring Editorial Approval

Manuscript formats other than Original Research Articles and eligible Review Articles are not automatically considered for publication. Short Communications, Technical Notes, Case Studies, Methodological Articles, Perspectives, and Letters to the Editor may be considered only if the editorial team has formally introduced these categories into the journal's publication policy.
Any additional manuscript category must have clearly defined objectives, eligibility criteria, content requirements, review procedures, and publication status before submissions are accepted. This approach follows the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing concerning journal scope, manuscript classification, and the communication of editorial policies.
Authors wishing to propose a manuscript outside the journal's established categories should contact the editorial office before submission. Editorial consideration does not guarantee that the proposed manuscript type will be accepted for peer review or publication.

5. General Requirements for All Manuscript Types

Regardless of manuscript type, every submission must comply with JIIP's Focus and Scope, Author Guidelines, Authorship Criteria, Publication Ethics, and applicable editorial requirements. All manuscripts must be scientifically relevant, written clearly, supported by appropriate evidence, and prepared according to the journal's prescribed manuscript template.
Originality and Previous Publication. Submitted manuscripts must represent original scholarly work and must not constitute undisclosed duplicate or redundant publication. Authors must disclose relevant prior dissemination and substantial overlap with existing publications. JIIP follows the COPE Core Practice on Intellectual Property, which calls for clear journal policies concerning plagiarism, redundant publication, copyright, and prepublication.
Simultaneous Submission. Manuscripts under active consideration by another scholarly journal must not be submitted simultaneously to JIIP. The corresponding author must confirm the manuscript's submission status and disclose relevant circumstances that could affect editorial assessment.
Research Ethics. Research involving human participants, interviews, surveys, personal information, or animal experimentation must comply with applicable institutional requirements, relevant legislation, and recognised ethical standards. Where required, authors must provide information about ethical approval, informed consent, animal welfare, or other research safeguards. These requirements reflect the COPE Core Practice on Ethical Oversight.
Data Availability and Reproducibility. Authors must retain appropriate research records and provide sufficient methodological information to support evaluation of the reported findings. The journal may request supporting data, relevant documentation, or methodological clarification where necessary, subject to legal, ethical, privacy, and confidentiality restrictions. This requirement follows the COPE principles on Data and Reproducibility.
Authorship and Contributions. All listed authors must satisfy the journal's authorship criteria and agree to the submitted manuscript. Contributors who do not qualify for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately. JIIP applies the COPE Core Practice on Authorship and Contributorship to promote accurate contributor recognition and accountability.
Conflicts of Interest and Funding. Authors must disclose financial and non-financial interests that could reasonably affect the interpretation or presentation of their research. Relevant funding sources and institutional support must also be identified. The journal adopts the transparency principles established in the COPE Core Practice on Conflicts of Interest and Competing Interests.
Accurate Referencing. Manuscripts must cite relevant previous research accurately and consistently. Authors must not fabricate references, misrepresent source findings, or engage in inappropriate citation practices. Editorial concerns involving citation manipulation or plagiarism will be assessed under the journal's publication ethics procedures.

6. Peer Review and Editorial Assessment

Submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment to determine their relevance to the journal's scope, compliance with submission requirements, scientific contribution, and suitability for further evaluation. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's minimum requirements may be declined before external peer review.
Manuscripts selected for external evaluation are processed according to JIIP's published peer-review policy. Reviewers assess scientific originality, methodological adequacy, analytical reliability, clarity of presentation, research relevance, and ethical compliance. The journal follows the COPE Core Practice on Peer Review Processes, which requires transparent, fair, and appropriately managed editorial review procedures.
Peer reviewers must evaluate manuscripts objectively, maintain confidentiality, declare competing interests, and communicate their assessments constructively. These responsibilities are explained in the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.
Final editorial decisions are based on scientific merit, methodological quality, relevance to the journal's objectives, reviewer recommendations, and compliance with publication ethics. Manuscript submission or successful completion of peer review does not guarantee publication.

7. Manuscripts That Are Not Eligible for Consideration

JIIP will not consider manuscripts that fall outside its scientific scope, lack sufficient scholarly contribution, or fail to meet basic methodological and reporting requirements. Manuscripts consisting solely of unsupported opinions, promotional material, unsubstantiated claims, or descriptions without meaningful scientific analysis are not suitable for publication as research articles.
Manuscripts containing substantiated plagiarism, fabricated or falsified data, inappropriate research practices, manipulated peer review, or undisclosed substantial duplication may be rejected or subjected to further investigation. The journal applies the COPE Core Practices on Allegations of Misconduct and Intellectual Property when addressing potential integrity violations.
Editorial decisions concerning suspected misconduct must rely on reasonable evidence and appropriate assessment procedures. Authors should be given an opportunity to clarify relevant concerns, while serious allegations may require consultation with the appropriate research institution or other competent authority.

8. Manuscript Structure and Formatting

Authors must prepare manuscripts using the official JIIP template and comply with the journal's current Author Guidelines. The required structure may differ according to the manuscript category, research methodology, and specific editorial requirements.
All manuscripts must include an appropriate title, abstract, keywords, main text, and reference list. Additional elements such as research ethics statements, author contribution declarations, funding information, acknowledgements, competing interest declarations, data availability statements, and supplementary materials must be included when applicable or required by the editorial office.
Authors should use recognised discipline-specific reporting guidelines when appropriate to their research design. Transparent reporting supports critical scientific assessment and is consistent with the COPE Core Practice on Data and Reproducibility.

9. Manuscript Submission Procedure

Authors must submit manuscripts through the official JIIP Online Submission System. Submissions must include complete and accurate manuscript metadata, required declarations, supporting documents, and any supplementary materials requested by the journal.
The corresponding author is responsible for confirming that all authors have approved the submission, that the manuscript meets the appropriate category requirements, and that all necessary research and publication ethics declarations have been provided.
Authors should consult the journal's Author Guidelines and Focus and Scope before manuscript preparation and submission.

10. Editorial Authority and Policy Implementation

The Editor-in-Chief and editorial team are responsible for determining whether a submitted manuscript is suitable for consideration under the journal's established publication categories. Editorial decisions must be based on scholarly merit, relevance, methodological reliability, and compliance with ethical and editorial requirements.
Any revision to the journal's manuscript categories must be communicated transparently through its official publication policies. JIIP seeks to maintain consistency between its manuscript classification, editorial procedures, submission requirements, and published scope in accordance with the COPE and partner organisations' Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.
By submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Ilmu-Ilmu Pertanian, authors confirm that they have read and agree to comply with the journal's applicable manuscript requirements, publication ethics policies, and editorial procedures.
